Doulas: You Don’t Need to Be Everywhere. You Just Need to Show Up in Search.

May 13, 20253 min read

Let’s be honest.

You didn’t become a doula to spend your life learning social media strategy.
You’re not trying to build a personal brand.
You just want the right people in your local area to find you — and trust you enough to reach out.

But if you’ve ever thought:

“I’m exhausted from trying to stay visible.”
“I take one week off posting and my inquiries disappear.”
“I have a website… but I don’t think anyone’s actually seeing it…”

You’re not alone.
And no, you’re not doing it wrong.
You’re just missing the quiet system that works in the background — while you’re resting, attending a birth, or catching your breath.

It’s not magic. It’s visibility.
Specifically:
search-based visibility.

And here’s the good news:
You don’t need to be everywhere.
You just need to show up where your clients are already looking.

So… where are they looking?

Not scrolling.
Searching.

When someone is actively seeking a birth doula, postpartum support, or lactation help, they’re not just liking a Reel and saving it for later.
They’re typing things like:

  • “birth doula in [your city]”

  • “VBAC support near me”

  • “postpartum doula for twins”

  • “lactation consultant home visit [city]”

And if your site doesn’t show up in that moment?
You miss the client.
Not because your work isn’t good. But because Google didn’t know you were the right fit.

Let’s fix that.

3 Ways Doulas Can Start Showing Up in Search

(Without Becoming SEO Experts)

1. Add your city and services in plain language — in multiple places.

Most doulas accidentally hide the info Google needs.
Instead of saying, “I’m a birth and postpartum doula in Milwaukee,” they say,

“Serving local families with love and intuition.”

That’s lovely. But it’s not searchable.

Make sure your homepage, about page, and service pages clearly include:

  • Your service areas (city, county, or neighborhood)

  • Your actual titles (birth doula, postpartum doula, lactation consultant, etc.)

  • Any specialties (VBAC, twins, homebirth, etc.)

No jargon. No fluff. Just clarity.

2. Claim and update your Google Business Profile.

This might be the most underused SEO tool doulas have.
And yes — it’s completely free.

When you claim your Google Business Profile and connect it to your website, you’re telling search engines:

“I’m a real business, in a real location, offering real services.”

Once it’s live, people can find you through Google Maps and local search results.
You can add reviews, photos, service descriptions, and more — all of which helps Google show your site to more of the right people.

If you haven’t done this yet, put “Claim Google Business Profile” on your to-do list today.
It takes 10 minutes and can make a big difference.

3. Write blog posts that answer real questions your ideal client is asking.

Blogging isn’t about filling up space.
It’s about showing up in search.

Each blog post is a new door into your business.
It gives Google another reason to suggest your site to someone searching for help.

Not sure what to write? Start here:

  • What’s one question a recent client asked before they hired you?

  • What’s something people misunderstand about your role?

  • What do you wish more people knew about birth or postpartum care?

Keep it simple.
Use your voice.
Don’t worry about being perfect.
Just be helpful.

You don’t have to be a marketer.

You just need a quiet strategy.

This is what we focus on inside Doula Website Club — turning the website you already have into something that works while you rest.
